Q1. What are the symptoms of FCV?

Q2. How do you test for FCV?
A2. Labs can also test tissue or serum samples. Commercial labs detect the presence of FCV in two ways: by growing the virus in cells in a petri dish, or through reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR), a procedure that detects a segment of genetic material that is specific to calicivirus.

Q3. How long does calicivirus last on surfaces?
A3. The virus may survive for up to one week in a contaminated environment (and possibly longer in a cool, damp location).

Q4. What is the difference between FHV and FCV in cats?
A4. The presence of typical upper respiratory signs is enough for a presumptive diagnosis of FCV and/or FHV-1 infection. Signs of oral ulceration and milder respiratory signs tend to suggest the involvement of FCV whereas more severe respiratory illness and signs of keratitis in may suggest the involvement of FHV-1.
